Chypre

A structural family built on the contrast between bergamot up top and a base of oakmoss, labdanum and patchouli. Named after Coty's 1917 Chypre, the lineage runs through Guerlain's Mitsouko (1919) and underwrites most great twentieth-century sophistication. Modern IFRA restrictions on oakmoss have forced contemporary chypres to rebuild the accord with synthetic substitutes.
